In this study we aimed to describe the relationship of the DDBLF of the DBUN and the insertion points on the external side of the fifth metacarpal during percutaneous transverse K-wire fixation of subcapital fractures. Methods: Dissections and measurements regarding this branch were performed after percutaneous transverse pinning to distal part of fifth metacarpal bones in ten cadaver hands formalin fixed. Results: The results of this study confirm the close proximity of the trajectory of the with this branch and demonstrate its potential iatrogenic injury during K-wire fixation of the fifth metacarpal. Conclusions: To avoid penetration of this nerve and limit the chances of iatrogenic injury it is important to know its course. The authors describe the anatomical insertion points and believe that using the anatomical knowledge, subcapital fifth metacarpal fractures can be treated without risk of sensory deficits.

Antegrade intramedullary pinning versus retrograde intramedullary pinning for displaced fifth metacarpal neck fractures.
BACKGROUND Severe angulation or shortening can be a surgical indication for fifth metacarpal neck fracture. In a previous meta-analysis, antegrade intramedullary pinning was shown to produce better hand function outcomes than percutaneous transverse pinning or miniplate fixation for treatment of fifth metacarpal neck fractures. However, the outcomes of retrograde intramedullary pinning, to our ...
متن کاملFractures of the neck of the fifth metacarpal bone. Medium-term results in 28 cases treated by percutaneous transverse pinning.
The purpose of this study was to report the medium-term results in 28 patients affected by closed displaced fractures of the neck of the fifth metacarpal bone (boxer's fracture) with an associated severe swelling of the hand, who were treated with percutaneous transverse K-wire pinning, to verify the effectiveness of this surgical treatment. We opted for this treatment in all cases in which mal...
متن کاملThe Efficacy of Transverse Fixation and Early Exercise in the Treatment of Fourth Metacarpal Bone Fractures
BACKGROUND Several techniques have been designed to treat fifth metacarpal fractures reported to be effective. However, these methods cannot be easily applied to the fourth metacarpal due to its central anatomical position. In this study, we sought to analyze the functional outcomes of patients who underwent transverse pinning for a fourth metacarpal bone fracture. METHODS A total of 21 patie...
متن کاملRisk factors of loss reduction after percutaneous fixation in supracondylar humerus in pediatric: a descriptive-analytical study
Background & Aims: supracondylar humerus fracture is one of the most common pediatric elbow fractures accounting for about 16% of the pediatric fractures. Loss of reduction is one of the complications after closed and percutaneous fixation. This research is aimed to investigate the factors involved in the loss of reduction. Method: In this descriptive study, the children with supracondylar hum...
متن کاملPercutaneous pinning versus pin-in-plaster for treatment of distal radius fractures
Background: Distal radius fractures constitute 17% of all fractures and 75% of forearm fractures in adults. Due to the vital role of the hands in a wide range of daily tasks, quick recovery and fewer complications for the patients are important. The purpose of this study was to compare the two common treatments of distal radius fractures namely, percutaneous pinning and pin-in-plaster. Methods...
